FOUNDATIONS OF AFRICAN THOUGHT
  - A worldview grounded in the African heritage of religion, philosophy, science and art

by Chukwunyere Kamalu

"What the author seeks to do is to present the ancient foundations of African thought in such a way as to capture the essential elements and concepts of the African world. Viewing the African continent in the same way as Diop and Obenga, that is, as a cultural unity, Kamalu reconstructs the general categories of African thought from the works of many writers..."
Dr Molefe Kete Asante, Temple University, Philadelphia

THE WORD AT FACE VALUE -
An abridged account of Dogon cosmology

by Chukwunyere Kamalu

This is an abridgement with commentary of an original account  of the beginnings of the Universe, by an African people, specifically the Dogon sages of Mali, West Africa, first titled "The Pale Fox" and written by the French anthropologists, Marcel Griaule and Germaine Dieterlen.
The Dogon account is special, not only because of the sheer elegance of the Dogon worldview, but also because of its echoes of biblical theology, and (given that it comes out of a 700 year old tradition) its remarkable predictions of modern scientific knowledge. Take for example, their knowledge of the companion of Sirius (Sirius B), which was not discovered by western scientists until 1862; their reference to the double helix pattern of the "signature of life" which is remarkable if viewed in the context of DNA, the double helix building block of life itself, discovered by Watson and Crick in 1953. Most remarkable of all the Dogon account of the Universe portrayed in the work, the Pale Fox, continues to yield predictions of modern scientific discovery, the most significant of recent years being the Dogon prediction that Sirius has a second companion (known to scientists as Sirius C), indicated to exist by perturbations  in the orbit of Sirius B around Sirius A discovered by the French astrophysicists, Daniel Benest and J.L. Duvent in 1995. The Dogon have always believed that this second companion is less heavy than Sirius B, just as the scientists results have indicated.
How the Dogon without telescopes and other modern technology could have amassed such knowledge so long ago is still a mystery fervently debated today.

THE LITTLE AFRICAN HISTORY BOOK -
Black Africa from the Origins of Humanity to the Assassination
of Lumumba and the turn of the 20th Century

by Chukwunyere Kamalu

Certain questions emerge from Africa's ancient and modern history: How did the various races evolve out of an original African race? Were ancient Nubia and ancient Egypt the first neighbouring black African nations?  Did the pre-Socratic Greek philosophers inherit their philosophy from the ancient Egyptians? How did the slave trade, colonialism and neo-colonialism contribute to the economic and technological advancement of Europe and America?  Did an American President order the assassination of Patrice Lumumba, the first prime minister of the Congo? Could the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Africa have originated from vaccination campaigns?  Why have Africa's riches fallen into the hands of greedy gangster politicians and warlords? Is the poor state of Africa's health purely a question of bad leadership?

Within the confines of this brief history of Africa, the author simply tells it as he sees it.

PERSON DIVINITY & NATURE -
A Modern View of the Person and the Cosmos in African Thought

by Chukwunyere Kamalu

This systematic study of African beliefs aims to give the reader more than a scramble of disconnected myths. Africa is viewed as a cultural unity in contrast to anthropological works which emphasise the idea of the diversity of Africa to the extreme. The result of this has been that ancient and traditional African worldviews/belief systems as a whole are seen as historically and geographically unconnected. This is more a personal than a rigid academic view of African systems of thought as a corpus of ideas having some kind of connection. A connection based on certain common truths, they refer to man/woman as beings who are a meaningful part of a mysterious universe.
In eight chapters, the author looks at the questions of Rites of Passage, The Person as Multiple Selves, Number Destiny and Divination, Complementary Opposites in Ethics and Morals, Ancient and Traditional Accounts of the Beginning, Common Elements in African Cosmology, The Supreme Being the Divinities and Spirit-Forces, and Earth and Land in African Thought and Practice. These chapters are detailed examples of analysis and interpretation, as well as representative personal experience, in the articulation and expression of African cosmology. This work opens up new understanding of African cosmology in its presentation of the holistic unit of material and immaterial, visible and invisible - all are understood to be part of an African worldview.

PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR ENERGY INSTALLATION FOR BEGINNERS

ABOUT THE TUTOR

The tutor  is a trained Environmental Scientist and Civil Engineer. He has years of experience delivering training in photovoltaic solar energy in UK and Africa and holds Galileo Master Certificates in Solar Energy and Wind Energy.

THE TRAINING

Training is available for those thinking of setting up their own home photovoltaic solar energy system or desiring the skills to design their own home system and employ professionals, greatly reducing installation costs. Asking professionals to both build and design a home off grid system can cost tens of thousands  or many of thousands of dollars. This cost can be eliminated if the requirement is only for a small 12 volt or 24 volt home solar system; perhaps powering small power appliances like lights, fans, computers and laptops, TV, and small fridges. For larger projects requiring more powerful systems that will  support air conditioning, large fridges and electric cookers, etc., the cost can be reduced to a fraction of the size if the householder is able to design their own system and employ only the professional tradesmen needed to do the specific jobs. This training is therefore potentially invaluable; whether trainees are looking to install their own system, recruit professionals to do so or to start on the route to becoming renewable energy professionals themselves.

  • Experienced tutor holding Galileo Master Certificates in Wind and Solar Power

  • Will help you learn to install an off-grid home solar power system.

  • GAMES
1.  Electronic 3D Noughts & Crosses
Look out for a download version of the app in the next few months.

2.  One-Two-Three  [ (c) Orisa Press, 2015]
A three dimensional, three-in-a-row board game for two players, based on  the 3-D noughts and crosses game.

HOW TO PLAY ONE-TWO-THREE
The 3-D three-in-a-row board game. It is just like 3-D "noughts & crosses", but played instead with black and white counters. No player is allowed to occupy the centre square on the centre playing board unless making or blocking a three-in-a-row. This rule distinguishes the game from normal 3D tic-tac-toe or 3D noughts and crosses. The first player to make three-in-a-row wins, in 2 or 3-D.  A fair match is an even number of games with players taking turns to move first.
